Fabienne Schlumpf triumphs in the World Half Marathon Championship in Poland with a Swiss record in 1: 08.38 hours.
Fabienne Schlumpf finished 13th with a time of 1: 08.38 hours. The 29-year-old from Zurich lowered her previous record by about 2 minutes and also beat Martina Strähl’s Swiss record by 51 seconds.
From the beginning, Schlumpf lost contact with the leading group, because they set a world record pace. The Swiss, as one of the first pursuers, ran most of the race alone and benefited little from the wake.
World record mark for Jepchirchir
On August 12, 2018, Schlumpf celebrated its biggest success to date in Berlin by winning EM silver on the 3000m steeple, at that time still on the track.
Kenyan Peres Jepchirchir was the winner. In 1: 05.16 hours, she set the world record for an exclusively female race. In mixed courses, the record is 1: 04.31.
Wanders missed the top 20
In the men’s category, Julien Wanders had to settle for 21st. The 24-year-old from Geneva crossed the line after 1:00:46. Tadesse Abraham lost 4 minutes and was 51. Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda came in as the winner in 58:49 minutes.
The 21.0975 km title fights in the Baltic Sea Bay of Gdańsk were the only world athletics championships this year due to the corona pandemic.
