The 34-year-old from Graubünden finished third in the second and final cross-country race of the year at Nove Mesto, behind Brazilian Henrique Avancini and Dutchman Milan Vader.
After fourth on Thursday from a poor starting position, Schurter was able to control the race from the front again this time. However, he lacked the strength to get rid of his strongest comrades. In the sprint against six competitors, he had to let Avancini and Vader go first. For the 31-year-old Avancini, who has been at the top for many years, it was the first World Cup victory.
Neff throws in the towel in round 2
The Swiss women were also unable to keep up with the fastest in the second race of the Cross Country World Cup at Nove Mesto. Sina Frei and Alessandra Keller were once again the best representatives of Swiss cycling with places 8 and 9. While Frei lost one position compared to Thursday, Keller improved one place.
