This afternoon, October 2, 2020, 15 Winterthur City Police officers were sworn in at the city church. The newly sworn in reinforce the Winterthur City Police units.
At 2.30 pm, the police officers entered the Winterthur Municipal Church. The invasion was musically accompanied by the corps music of the canton of Zurich police. Winterthur City Police Commander Colonel Fritz Lehmann welcomed some 100 family members and guests. Subsequent speeches by a policewoman and a police officer were about the experiences during their basic training at the Zurich police school and their internship in the corps.
Police officers then made their vows to Winterthur Mayor Michael Künzle and the commander welcomed the newly sworn in to the body. This year, seven of the sworn police officers changed careers. The other eight are graduates of the police school.
Councilor Nicolás Galladé, deputy director of the department, warmly welcomed the sworn police officers of the Department of Safety and Environment and stressed that the city police must constantly develop and adapt to social changes. It is important for the city council that diversity in society is also reflected in the police.
The solemn ceremony took place this year on a reduced stage due to the situation of the crown. Unfortunately, the traditional march through the old town had to be avoided.
