Bob: podium for Friedli / Jones

Two-man bobsleigh pilot Simon Friedli and shooter Gregory Jones landed in third place on Saturday in Sigulda, Latvia. The second Swiss sled with Michael Vogt and Alain Knuser finished eighth. Record world champion Francesco Friedrich of Germany also won the third World Cup race of the season, with a track record in the second race. Local hero Oskars Kibermanis took second place.

China World Cup final canceled

The final of the Bobsleigh World Cup in March 2021 will not be held at the new Olympic track in Yanqing. The International Association canceled the training week scheduled for the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, which would have been integrated into the final event. Test drives in China should pick up again by next fall. The replacement location for the World Cup final will be announced next week.

Bob – 5th place for the Swiss women’s duo

Melanie Hasler with pusher Jasmin Näf took fifth place in her third World Cup race at Sigulda. The week before, the Swiss duo ranked fourth in the same spot. The rated Swiss number 1 Martina Fontanive crashed while pushing Nadja Pasternack in race two, like a week ago, and was disqualified. The victory went to the Germans Laura Nolte / Leonie Fiebig.

Ski jumping: Ammann won’t start

Simon Ammann failed at Kuusamo in the first round and had to settle for 46th place. Gregor Deschwanden (26th) and Dominik Peter (30th) were able to avoid a Swiss “zero”. Germany’s Markus Eisenbichler also won the second competition of the winter by a wide margin.
