While the Federal Council decided on stricter crown measures on Wednesday, the measures taken in Switzerland remain mild compared to other European countries. There is still no talk of blockades in Switzerland. The most explosive measure is a possible curfew for restaurants starting at 10 p.m. or 11 p.m.
This is the current situation in our neighboring countries: in many places far-reaching restrictions are imposed on public life:
France
France is considering a month-long lockdown in light of the growing number of coronavirus cases and an impending overload of the healthcare system. This is reported by the French private station “BFM TV”. Interior Minister Gérald Darmain (38) said Tuesday before a cabinet crisis meeting that “tough decisions” are inevitable.
On Wednesday, reports «Le Monde», a decision will be made on stricter measures. If tougher curfews don’t go into effect, one should re-close, according to the government’s scientific advisory board. Head of State Emmanuel Macron (42) will address his compatriots on Wednesday night, it was said in circles at the Elysee Palace without further details.
Austria
In Austria, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (34) has set a lockdown limit of 6000 new infections per day. A mark that will presumably be reached in December, Kurz said in an interview with “Puls24”. The daily increase is currently about 3,000 new cases.
Italy
In Italy, which was hit so hard by Corona in the spring, local closures are already in place again. The government calls them curfews, which will initially apply in Rome, Naples, Campania, Piedmont and Lombardy. Restaurants across the country must close at 6pm, on Sundays and holidays they can only open for lunch. Eating and drinking outdoors is also prohibited. The nightly entertainment and nightlife came to a complete halt. Cinemas, theaters and games rooms will be closed, as will gyms and swimming pools.
These are Merkel’s tough blockade plans for Germany
Germany also now wants to crack down without officially naming the word blockade. Chancellor Angela Merkel (66) is likely to impose a nationwide “shutdown light” on Wednesday, as the media call it. Otherwise, he warns, according to media reports, there is a risk of collapse of the hospital. Tough measures must be taken against gastronomy. According to “Bild”, restaurants should close completely, events should be closed and private contacts should be limited to the smallest area possible.
Consequently, the number of cases in Germany currently doubles every seven to eight days. Intensive care bed occupancy doubles every ten days. Merkel’s horror warning: “Turn four times and the system is over!”
According to “RTL”, the Chancellor wants to keep private contacts to a minimum again. You should only be allowed to be in public with members of your own household and those of another household. Rapes, it is said, must be severely punished. All leisure and cultural facilities are apparently due to close and overnight stays are being severely restricted. Only “necessary and expressly non-tourist” overnight stays should be allowed.
“Breakwater blocking”
In addition, the government is talking internally about the so-called “breakwater blockade”, which is specially designed to prevent the collapse of the hospital. “Breakwater blocking because it is supposed to break the second wave, exponential growth,” explains SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach, who designed the concept together with Charité virologist Christian Drosten (48).
According to Lauterbach, if the curve does not flatten, there is a risk of hard locks like in Spain or the Netherlands, even at Christmas.
According to the Chancellor’s will, the measures presented today must be applied at the national level as of November 4 and remain in effect until the end of the month.
