There was an accident at the Wil SG arena on Sunday afternoon. A four-year-old boy fell into a well and was dragged down an underground pipe into a nearby pond.
According to the police of the canton of St. Gallen, the arena was under water due to heavy rains. As this happens over and over again, there is a shaft at the edge of the square, which guides the water through a pipe with a diameter of approximately 70 centimeters to the pond.
Manhole cover raised
Because of the heavy rain he was no longer seen that Sunday. Apparently he had raised the manhole cover so that the manhole was open. The boy ran through the arena with adults and other children and fell into the well. Then four-year-old Wiler was pushed into the pipe and swept away.
After about four meters, the pipe can be seen again from above. After firefighters reduced the pressure in the well with wooden boards, they were able to grab the boy from the pipe and rescue him to the surface.
After receiving first aid from the emergency services, Rega flew him to the hospital in critical condition. As Kapo spokesman Hanspeter Krüsi tells BLICK, the boy was in the pipe for several minutes. It was not completely filled with water, but it is not clear if the boy had air to breathe. It is not yet possible to say what injuries he has suffered. (bih / man)
