One of the signatories is the Activist Che Wagnerwho lives with his family in Basel. At the end of October, his life partner, a 29-year-old artist with no previous illnesses, became infected with the corona virus.
To this day, you are struggling with serious long-term consequences like dizziness, nausea, and fainting. “At the moment he cannot run more than 50 meters,” Wagner writes on Twitter. Therefore, it depends on a wheelchair.
Che Wagner’s partner is by no means the only sick person who has to grapple with the long-term consequences of the crown in Switzerland. Many infected people report that they still have severe pain, shortness of breath, or weakness weeks after illness.
In the open letter, the signatories demand that the long-term consequences of Covid-19 receive more attention in the health system and in politics. In Switzerland, “many on the front lines hardly know” about symptoms that last for months, and it is difficult to find places of help and rehabilitation, Wagner says.
Immediate change of course is required
“We must act now and prevent many more people from dying from the coronavirus or possibly suffering serious long-term consequences. That is the responsibility that the Federal Council and we as a society now have to assume, ”says Che Wagner.
In the open letter, the Federal Council requests an immediate change of course: the undersigned call for a massive reduction in the number of infections and deaths, accelerating the vaccination plan and tightening existing measures.
In addition, offers should be guaranteed as points of contact to provide those affected and their families with the necessary information and assistance. The Federal Council should provide science with the means so that “Long Covid” can be better investigated, evaluated and treated.
