Facebook is serious and forces all WhatsApp users to reveal personal information. The time has come for favorable alternatives to data protection.
WhatsApp users must accept the new terms of use no later than February 8; otherwise, they will no longer be able to use the courier service.
The problem: those who agree to share a lot of personal information on Facebook.
Facebook ensures that the sharing of user data serves the security and integrity of all Facebook products. The company wants to take action against spam, threats, abuse and rights violations.
However, the new user instructions also state that the information will be shared in order to help “operate, deliver, improve, understand, adapt, support and market the services.”
2 billion users around the world are affected.
WhatsApp’s changed conditions apparently cause many users to switch to Signal. Even the verification system was temporarily overloaded. The problems should be solved now, they say.
Elon Musk hates Facebook and recommends Signal
Like Edward Snowden years ago, Tesla boss Elon Musk now recommends switching to Signal.
The day before, the nerd, who became the richest man in the world thanks to the rise of Tesla, revealed what he thinks of social media platforms. He tweeted a meme about the so-called domino effect, a catastrophic chain reaction sparked by the founding of Facebook.
In 2004, Mark Zuckerberg launched a website for students to rate women on college campuses. This ushered in the era of American social media platforms. 16 years later, the Capitol in Washington DC was stormed by a mob, incited by misinformation on Facebook and Co.

Why does WhatsApp do this?
WhatsApp belongs to Facebook. And Facebook is one of the largest data octopuses in the world. The American company collects as much information as possible about (all) Internet users. With the aim of selling personalized advertising messages.
WhatsApp’s updated privacy policy states:
“As part of the Facebook company, WhatsApp receives information from other Facebook companies and also shares information with other Facebook companies.”
The reference to the new terms of use and data protection guidelines currently appears automatically when you open WhatsApp, notes heise.de. First of all, there is only a brief summary that there are changes in data processing and services hosted on Facebook for businesses. If you do not want to accept, you can no longer use the courier from the validity date.
Heise.de criticizes that you have to click on some pages and links to find the modified passages. That partly ends with being driven in a circle.
Getting around is easy 😉
Obviously, many WhatsApp users shy away from the effort involved in a constant “move” to another platform and the deletion of WhatsApp.
I personally recommend switching to Signal or Threema. Swiss Messenger offers several advantages compared to the data avid competition from the USA:
- The servers are in Switzerland
- The application is open source.
- You do not need a mobile phone number to register and use the service.
A cell phone number is required for Signal, which is why the app offers group video conferencing, among other things.
