The Covid-19 situation can change dramatically in a very short time, this has been known since the spring. The behavior of the Federal Council is no less drastic. The cantons have until today, Friday December 11, to comment on the new measures proposed by the Federal Council.
What rules will apply?
Many cantons are offended by the unannounced action of the Federal Council, which has exerted massive pressure. At the same time, there are strong voices that have long called on the Federal Council to take on more responsibilities.
Today, the Federal Council will issue the last warning. If this does not have notable consequences, there will be a national shutdown from December 18.
The Federal Council outlined the following national measures since Saturday:
- Restaurants, shops, markets and leisure facilities must be closed after 7:00 p.m. and on Sundays. Indoor sports activities are also affected.
- A maximum of five people from two households should be allowed to meet in private rooms. Exceptions should only be made in the period from December 24 to 26 and December 31.
- Apart from religious celebrations and parliamentary assemblies, all public events will be prohibited.
- Cultural activities, including at school, should be prohibited. Audience events are prohibited.
According to media reports, the following rules should also be added:
- Instead of the 15 people above, only five people over the age of 16 will be able to get together for non-contact sports.
- The same restriction applies to non-professional cultural activities.
- Ski areas, pharmacies, social facilities, gas stations, and open-air markets should be excluded from the evening curfew and Sunday closing.
- Not all restaurants have to close at 7 p.m. Hotel restaurants that are only open to hotel guests can stay open until 11 p.m. Businesses that offer takeout and delivery services can also open until 11 p.m.
- Restaurants and restaurants can remain open the night from December 24 to 25 and at the end of the year until 1 am
- A maximum of 50 people can be present at religious events.
