On Tuesday, shortly before 1.30 pm, the Bern Canton police received a message that a man had crashed into the Eiger in Wengen BE. As part of a rescue flight immediately initiated by Rega in cooperation with Alpine Rescue Switzerland, the victim was quickly located.
However, the emergency doctor was only able to determine the man’s death, as indicated in a message from the cantonal police in Bern. The deceased is a Swiss († 24) from the canton of Friborg.
The cantonal police have launched an investigation
According to current knowledge, the man and a 21-year-old companion climbed from the Eiger Glacier mountain station to the summit in the morning. The descent down the western flank was done on foot before the two men wanted to go down on skis.
On the descent, however, the 24-year-old fell, fell several hundred meters and sustained fatal injuries. His partner was unhurt.
The police of the canton of Bern have launched investigations to clarify the exact course of the accident. (noo)
