Well-known Basel professor Silvio Borner died at age 79

The Basel economist Silvio Borner († 79), renowned beyond the borders of Switzerland, has died. He died on Monday, as his family announced in an obituary Wednesday in the “Neue Zürcher Zeitung.”

Borner studied at the University of St. Gallen and received his doctorate. After holding positions at Yale American University, among others, he completed his habilitation at the University of St. Gallen, where he was appointed Senior Lecturer in Economics in 1976. He subsequently accepted a Chair in Economics at the University of Basel, where he did research and teach until his retirement in 2009.
