The super-rich come and go here. Now the political elite is joining them. The Bürgenstock Resort, located on top of Lake Lucerne, is considered one of the most beautiful and noble holiday resorts in Europe. Next spring you can also enjoy the glamor of the World Economic Forum.
From May 18 to 21, 2021, the world’s elite have fun at the Bürgenberg. The complex stops gracefully. Are you waiting for Trump and Co? “We cannot comment on this,” hotel spokesman Daniel Huggenberger told VIEW.
No wishes left unfulfilled
You don’t need to say more. The hotel’s elite target group and offering speak for themselves. The grown-ups can feel welcome here. A “smart casual” dress code has even been established to filter the right clientele at the doors. You want to stay between you.
Prices have also been raised in recent years to keep unwanted guests away. The hotel was built in 1871. It has changed hands many times since then. More recently, Qatar’s main investor “Katara Hospitality Limited” bought it from UBS.
New owner, new address
The Qataris are said to have invested more than 550 million francs in the development. But there were also problems: it is said that several artisan companies did not charge at that time and sued the complex.
The hotel complex, which sits 1,127 meters above the lake, now comprises a total of four hotels, an in-house beauty and relaxation center with medical care, apartments, suites and two wellness oases in a total of 10,000 square meters: the Bürgenstock Alpine Spa and the Waldhotel Spa. There are also ten fancy restaurants, bars and lounges here.
Rooms from CHF 1012
The cheapest stay for one night at the hotel is at the Palace Hotel at 1012 francs and at the Hotel Bürgenstock at 1322 francs. If you want to rent an apartment in Bürgenstock, including hotel service, you must pay at least 7,000 to 30,000 francs per month.
The hotel also has a lot to offer to relax in the room: some of the rooms are equipped with bathtubs, which are located directly at the window and offer views of the lake.
If you want to take a short respite from the demanding program during the WEF: the hotel’s Hammetschwand elevator is the highest outdoor elevator in Europe and takes guests to the top of the Bürgenberg with a 360-degree panoramic view of the lake, Rigi and Pilatus.
Multiple helicopter landing areas
The complex is perfect for the money elite. And even a Trump can land safely here. The hotel is located on a mountain range above Lake Lucerne. The entrances are manageable. This could also be an advantage for the security team of celebrity guests. Unlike Davos, with the many mountains and roads around it, it is probably easier to keep track of the area.
The hotel offers several landing sites for those arriving by helicopter. If you want to come by private jet, you can check in at Buochs Airport, which is only a 15-minute drive from the resort.
There is also a special access from Lucerne: the shuttle boat takes you directly to the Bürgenstockbahn, which then transports guests.
Bürgenstock only once
The WEF wants to go more digital next year. Participants will be digitally connected to a network of 400 locations around the world. The hotel offers 2,200 square meters of conference and event space, plenty of space to exchange ideas virtually or in person.
But business leaders shouldn’t get used to luxuries. The WEF under the theme “The Big Reboot” will only take place here once in 2021. Then it returns to Davos GR.
