Just in time for the meteorological start of winter on Tuesday, it sometimes snows on the plains. In some areas the snow falls and first thing in the morning whitens the streets and meadows. At lower altitudes (eg Basel) sleet sometimes falls, but otherwise the snow line is usually at the bottom.

Especially in elevated areas, like here in St. Gallen, snow is likely to linger on the streets.

Usually only small amounts
In many places in the lowlands only a fluff of snow falls, but locally up to 10 cm is possible. On the northern slopes of the Alps, more than 20 cm of fresh snow falls in some places.
On Wednesday there will be a few more snowflakes in some places, probably in the east, in the Alps and in the south.

Next weekend, more precipitation is possible in the south and partly in the Alps. On the southern slopes of the Alps, snow amounts of more than one meter are possible.
