WeatherWatch – Heavy snowfall continued through Sunday night – Meteo

[ad_1]

the essentials in brief

  • Lots of fresh snow on the southern side of the Alps and adjacent areas through Monday night
  • Great avalanche danger on the southern slopes of the Alps (level 4 of 5)
  • Also in the north there is snow in some areas down to the depths

Lots of fresh snow

During the night and on Sunday it snowed heavily again in the south. In the mountains of the southern slopes of the Alps, up to 1.5 m of fresh snow is possible locally from Friday to Sunday. From northern Ticino to Bergell and from Tujetsch through the Valsertal to the Upper Engadine, it snows with greater intensity, and large amounts of snow should also be expected in the valleys.

Particularly on the north-south axis, significant restrictions are still to be expected due to snowfall. In the southern lowlands, the snow sometimes turns to rain again on the weekend. The snow line temporarily rises to 1600 m.

Increased danger of avalanches

Large amounts of fresh snow in combination with strong winds at height ensure a marked increase in the risk of avalanches.
