Just get rid of the waste! At the end of the year, people refilled their trunks with their used belongings and took them to the recycling center. Because of this, the cars got stuck in a long line in Zurich.
“On Monday, a total of 900 cars arrived at the Hagenholz recycling center,” Daniel Eberhard, media spokesman for the city of Zurich Waste Management and Recycling, tells BLICK. “That’s a lot.”
Double the waste at Christmas
During the festive season, however, there are always a lot of people. “Starting in mid-December, there will be 50 percent more waste,” says Eberhard. He has a thesis for this: “Maybe people take their Christmas decorations to the basement and then notice an old dresser that they no longer need.”
But what can also be: “Elimination coupons expire in December,” says Eberhard. Every year, the inhabitants of Zurich receive vouchers with which they can dispose of four hundred kilos of garbage for free. Perhaps many are taking the last chance to get rid of the old ballast for free.
At the moment, only 15 vehicles are allowed at the Hagenholz recycling center, the largest in the city. “For crown distance rules to be enforced,” says Eberhard. The remaining cars have to wait outside.
