On Wednesday there was a major police operation in St. Gallen: shortly after 12 noon, the city police received a report that a violent crime had occurred on Speicherstrasse. A patrol immediately left.
In the evening, the St. Gallen prosecutor confirmed that two people had died: a man and a woman. As far as we know, the stranger attacked the woman in her apartment. In the course of the subsequent deployment, the police fired a shot.
Did the police shoot the man?
The unknown man died at the scene. The seriously injured woman later died in hospital. The prosecutor has not yet wanted to confirm whether one of the two fatalities was killed by police shooting. More information about the case will be available on Thursday.
The exact circumstances of the incident are not yet clear. According to the Public Ministry, the causes of death of the two deceased as well as their identity will be clarified.
Investigations by the police force outside the canton
After the incident, the city of St. Gallen police called several ambulances and patrol cars. A police force from outside the canton was also at the scene.
The St. Gallen prosecutor’s office ordered the investigations to be carried out. It’s standard procedure after a police shot.
Large cordoned off area
Shortly after the incident, a white tent and privacy screens were set up in front of the affected house. There was also a hearse at the site. Reader BLICK reporters reported that a coffin was removed from the apartment.
