French skipper Charlie Dalin crosses the finish line of the Vendée Globe first. However, you are still not sure if you are the winner.
Charlie Dalin (36) completed his solo circumnavigation of the world in 28,267.88 nautical miles at Les Sables-d’Olonne after 80 days, 6 hours, 15 minutes and 47 seconds. Two other patrons were able to dispute his success despite the exceptional performance.
The third place Boris Herrmann with his “Seaexplorer – Yacht Club de Monaco” and the fifth place French Yannick Bestaven with the “Maître Coq IV” sail towards the finish line with time credits in the account.
After participating in the Kevin Escoffier wreck rescue mission on the night of November 30 to December 1, Herrmann had received 6 hours compensation for lost time, Bestaven 10:15 hours.
Collision with Hermann
Herrmann, who was expected shortly after midnight at the finish line in the French seaside city, may have lost the decision on victory shortly before the finish. The German collided with a fishing boat about 90 miles offshore. Herrmann was unhurt, but his yacht was damaged. It was not clear at first how long the incident cost him. Bestaven is expected to arrive early Thursday morning.
The Swiss Alan Roura goes after the problems with the keel of «La Fabrique» in the 16th intermediate row, sailing at the equator. Having started with great sporting ambitions, the 27-year-old’s only goal is to reach Les Sables-d’Olonne.
