Alan Roura did. After 95 days, the Swiss returned to the Les Sables d’Olonne port of departure on France’s Atlantic coast on Thursday night during the Vendée Globe circumnavigation.

The Genevan ranked 17th out of 33 patterns. But rank became a minor matter for the 27-year-old, who started Nov. 8 with the top 10 ambitions and hopes to return within 80 days.

Roura with perseverance

Due to continuing problems with the keel, Roura even considered giving up at the end of the year. But he made his way, rationed food and, 4 years after the eighth, also closed the ninth edition of the prestigious regatta.

Frenchman Yannick Bestaven finished the non-stop race of around 54,000 km in 80 days as the winner.
