Swiss New Year’s Eve: Illegal parties and violence at the main train station

According to police reports from the cantons, things remained relatively quiet in Switzerland on New Year’s Eve, save for some reports of disorderly conduct. However, there were three major police operations.

In Villeneuve VD, the police had to move in with a large contingent on New Year’s Eve. The reason was an illegal rave party that took place in a shopping hall. All 200 to 300 people were in the building, although it is not considered safe, Vaudois police said. The commercial hall was damaged in a fire in 2009. In addition, gasoline generators were used at the party, so the entire area was evacuated.

Those attending the party also did not comply with the applicable crown measures. The organizer was detained while the match dissolved. The 29-year-old now has to wait for a complaint. A total of more than 100 police officers were on duty. The party participants were then taken to Lausanne on a special train.

A party in Zurich also broke up

In Volketswil, the Zurich police also broke up an illegal party with about 100 people. During the course of New Year’s Eve, the police received various information that an unauthorized party was taking place in an empty shopping hall. Officials were able to break up the event shortly after midnight. About 25 adolescents and young adults were screened and rejected. You should expect a complaint for ignoring the crown rules.

There was also a deployment of the Zurich canton police at the main train station. Police officers were attacked by several people in connection with the checkpoints. Then nine people were arrested. “Seven Swiss, one woman and seven men between the ages of 16 and 24 are reported to the public prosecutor for violence and threats against officials and other crimes,” the cantonal police wrote in a statement.
