Five weeks before the US presidential election, the two candidates had a chaotic exchange of blows.
In the first television duel, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and the challenger Joe Biden covered themselves with personal attacks and fought chaotic arguments. Biden described Trump as “racists”, “Putin puppies” and “the worst president the United States has ever had.” Trump attacked Biden’s son Hunter and refused to promise he would not declare himself the winner before the official election results.
Already on the first issue, the filling of a vacancy in the Supreme Court, the candidates vehemently contradicted each other. Trump said of his nomination for Judge Amy Coney Barrett: “We won the election and therefore the right to choose it.” Biden asked to wait until February 2021 to fill the position, “because we are already in the middle of the elections.”
There was also disagreement on how to deal with the corona pandemic. After Trump insisted he had a health care plan, Biden accused him of lying. “Everybody knows that Trump is a liar. He was already aware of the danger of Covid-19 in February and has not taken anything. ”In view of the more than 205,000 victims of the crown in the US, Biden accused him of not being up to the fight against the pandemic .
I have built the best economy in the history of the country.
“If we had listened to Biden, the borders would have been opened wide and more citizens would have died,” Trump responded. But he could have prevented millions of deaths with his crisis management. He did a great job building the best economy in American history.
Moderator Wallace asks candidates what they think about racism and the Black Lives Matter protests. “Until now there has not been a president who has made as many inappropriate slogans about racism as Trump. He did nothing for the African American community, ”said Joe Biden.
Donald Trump replied that he would have liked to intervene in the protests with more law and order, but that democratically governed states had impeded peace and order.
Biden addressed the audience directly
Trump also once again painted the scene for massive vote-by-mail fraud and avoided the question of whether he would accept defeat. He also refused to clearly condemn right-wing extremists and right-wing armed groups. “Most of what I see is from the left edge, not the right,” he said.
You guys at home, how are you?
Presidential candidate Joe Biden used the television debate several times to address voters directly. In the crown crisis, millionaires and billionaires like Trump did well, “but you guys at home, how are you?” Biden said, for example, to the camera.
Trump kept interrupting Biden
Trump repeatedly interrupted Biden during the televised duel and had to be warned multiple times by Foxnews host Chris Wallace. Biden often responded with a wry smile to statements made by the headline.
The 90 minute debate was followed by an audience of millions. The stakes were high for both candidates. Trump trailed Biden in national polls until recently. Biden had to take the opportunity to show that despite his 78 years he is capable of ruling the country.
Biden made no verbal errors this time and the former vice president managed to stay calm. In a poll by CBS broadcaster, a narrow majority saw the Democratic challenger as the winner in the exchange of blows with Trump.
