Johnson & Johnson suspends its study of a possible vaccine against the coronavirus. The pharmaceutical company announced that a test person was ill.
It is not the first pharmaceutical company to discontinue its studies on the corona vaccine. Back in September, the pharmaceutical giant Astra Zeneca reported complications with a test person. Now Johnson & Johnson is struggling too.
So far, it is not clear what exactly the sick subject is missing. The US pharmaceutical company does not wish to disclose further information due to the protection of the subject’s privacy. According to Johnson & Johnson, the sick person could also have received a placebo. Also, “adverse events” are part of all studies.
I’ve come a long way
The study was well advanced. On September 23, the company began the final and decisive phase of clinical trials. She will test the effectiveness of the substance on up to 60,000 volunteers. The plan was to have the first doses of the vaccine ready in early 2021.
Johnson & Johnson is not alone in this plan. Several manufacturers are already in this phase of the study. So far no efficacy has been proven.
Contracts ready
Although it is not yet certain whether the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will work, the EU Commission has already secured subscription rights. About 200 million people should benefit from it. (lui / SDA)
