The government of President-elect Donald Trump (74) had a black man convicted of murder executed almost six weeks before his replacement, despite prominent opposition. Brandon Bernard, 40, was killed by a lethal injection Thursday night (local time) at Terre Haute, Indiana prison, US media reported casually.

According to the Death Penalty Information Center, the United States government plans to carry out four more death sentences before Trump’s victorious challenger, Joe Biden (78), takes office on January 20. Future President Biden, a Democrat, has spoken out in favor of abolishing the death penalty at the federal level. Republican Trump, on the other hand, is an advocate for executions. The US Supreme Court rejected a request to stay Bernard’s execution on Thursday night.
