American elections are strange: Republican who died from Corona is elected member of parliament
David Andahl wanted to move into the North Dakota House of Representatives for Republicans. But in early October, the 55-year-old man died of Covid-19. Now he was chosen anyway.
A Republican who died of Covid-19 was elected to the North Dakota House of Representatives.
Rancher David Andahl lost his brief battle with coronavirus on October 5. It was the same day that US President Donald Trump, who was also infected with Corona and regularly downplayed its dangers, returned to the White House after his hospital stay.
But despite his death, Andahl remained a candidate for the Republican Party in the general election. And now he has won, reports fox9.com.
How does it work? The “American” rule applies, “according to which the votes cast by the deceased candidate must be counted,” North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem said, according to media reports. “If a deceased candidate receives the majority of the votes, the candidate is elected.”
The North Dakota Republican Party can now name a successor.
