The 41-year-old Canadian center signs a temporary contract with Graubünden.
Joe Thornton returns to HC Davos. The Bündner and the 41-year-old center agreed to a temporary contract until the start of the NHL, which is currently scheduled for January 1.
“It is a great honor that Joe has decided to appear for the third time in his incredible career for HCD,” said sporting director Raeto Raffainer. Thornton trained with HCD in the summer and now expects serious fights in his own words.
First use on Saturday?
The 1815-time NHL player has a Swiss passport and therefore does not require a foreign license. If the administrative details have been clarified, he would play the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers on Saturday.
Thornton was due to the NHL lockout in the 2004/05 season for the first time for Graubünden. Since September 2012 he has worn the Davos shirt again.
Thornton has played in the NHL for the San Jose Sharks since 2005. He has yet to receive a new contract for next season. According to media reports, other NHL teams are interested in him as well.
