Two deaths from Covid-19 were reported in Basel-Stadt on Friday. The number of people who died amounts to 56.
The deceased are two men, 88 and 92 years old. Both had previous illnesses, as the health department announced in its second weekly Corona newsletter on Friday.
One death occurred in a nursing home, the other person died in the hospital. The latest Covid-19 related death was reported in the canton of Basel-Stadt on August 29.
63 new infections
In the resident population, 63 new cases of coronavirus were registered on Friday, 43 less than the previous day. This means that a total of 3,076 people in the canton of Basel-Stadt have so far tested positive for the corona virus.
There were 796 people in isolation, 54 fewer than the day before. 52 people residing in the canton of the city are hospitalized due to Covid-19. There are also 34 non-residents. Of the total of 86 people who are hospitalized due to Covid-19, 15 require intensive care.
Overcoming the bottleneck in contact tracing
Non-urgent and plannable operations in Basel-Stadt have been reduced in consultation with hospitals and the canton of Baselland, according to the message.
The bottleneck in contact tracing has also been largely removed. Therefore, close contact persons of infected persons could be notified again by phone.
Baselland reports 102 new infections
A total of 102 new cases were reported. The total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 rose to 3,623. Of these, 2,151 are considered cured according to the pandemic statistics on the canton’s website.
