India is rocked again by two brutal and fatal abuses. A 19-year-old woman was allegedly ill-treated and tortured by four men in a camp in the Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh on September 14. On Tuesday, she succumbed to her injuries in hospital.
The 19-year-old’s mother reported that she and her daughter cut grass for the cows on the day in question. When she looks around, her daughter is suddenly no longer visible. Protesters demand justice
The young woman was strangled with a veil she was wearing, wounded in the spinal cord and mutilated her tongue. It belonged to the Dalits, the formerly “untouchables.” Although the caste system has been officially abolished in India, Dalits are still viewed as people without rights in many parts of India. Four upper caste men from the village were arrested and initially charged with gang rape and attempted murder. On Thursday, a senior police officer said no rape had occurred, according to a report from the forensic science lab. Therefore, the samples taken did not contain sperm.
The horrific act sparked protests in India. In the demonstrations, the population demands justice for the victim and her family. Protesters complain of violence against women and discrimination against Dalits in India. Many people called for the death penalty for the perpetrators. The victim’s father told The Indian Express: “We just want justice, that’s all.”
The main defendant also sexually abused other women
The family also made accusations against the police. In fact, she wanted to bring the daughter’s body home for the final rites. This wish was apparently denied. Instead, the deceased was brought directly to the cremation site Wednesday night. There she was supposedly cremated without the family. Police deny the allegations.

Apparently, her family reported that the 22-year-old girl came home late at night in poor condition.
