When the Hamburg researcher Paul Trimmel did his first research 50 years ago on November 29, 1970 The investigation “Tatort” was opened, no one suspected that the history of television was being written. With “Taxi nach Leipzig” began a format that is unmatched in the German-speaking world.
Today “Tatort” is the most popular fiction format on German television, it is considered “the last bonfire” of society and is hotly debated on the Internet every week. In 2019, an average of 9 million viewers followed the cases in the different cities, the market share increased to almost 26 percent (previous year: 24.9 percent). And the new “Tatort” makes it clear once again why.
