After the storm on Capitol Hill, Twitter blocked former President Donald Trump’s account. This will remain blocked, the company announced Wednesday.

Twitter sees no turning back for former President Donald Trump, who has been ousted from the platform. Our rules are designed to ensure that no one incites violence. If someone does that, we remove them from the platform, and our rules do not allow people to return, “CFO Ned Segal said Wednesday on CNBC.

Twitter blocked Trump in early January about two weeks before the end of his term. The trigger was the assault on the United States Capitol by his supporters, and that the president expressed his sympathy for them and continued to claim without evidence that the victory in the presidential election had been stolen from him through massive fraud.

Trump later also blocked Facebook; the online network is now monitoring the measure by an independent body that can overturn the company’s decision. Twitter has no such body.

“The way our rules work: If you were removed from the platform, you were removed from the platform, regardless of whether you are a commentator, CFO or former or incumbent public official,” Segal said.

The Twitter account with more than 80 million subscribers was Trump’s most important communication channel for years. After the president’s controversial tweets, the short message service was repeatedly requested to block him at least temporarily. Twitter shied away from it until the attack on the Capitol and limited itself to warning notices, among other things, in the case of false claims about the result of the US presidential elections and the corona virus.
