Trump supporters and opponents march in US cities
As the wait for the final result of the election continues, unrest increases in several American cities. Trump supporters marched in front of polling stations, Trump opponents blocked the streets. An overview:
Detroit, Michigan
“Stop the count!” (“Stop the count!”) Dozens of Trump supporters chanted outside the TCF Center in Detroit, Michigan, even before the US state went to Biden. The protesters banged on the windows and doors and asked to enter (“Let us in!”) After being told that they could not enter the polling station where the count took place.
Trump supporters claimed there were not enough Republican election watchers. The police had to intervene and the windows were covered with mosquito nets.
Several Trump supporters also gathered outside a convention center in Detroit and demanded that the vote counting be stopped.
The Reuters news agency reported that around 100 people had gathered in Detroit to demand that all votes be counted. Trump must stop “stealing the election.”
Phoenix, Arizona
In Phoenix, the largest city in the still highly competitive state of Arizona, about 150 Trump supporters gathered, some of whom were armed with semi-automatic rifles, as reported by a correspondent for the CNN news channel. The group traveled from the State Capitol to the Maricopa County voting station and requested entry to verify the correct count of the ballots. The police prevented them from entering the office.
Some of the protesters attacked the Trump-affiliated Fox television station because it had beaten Biden early in its coverage of Arizona.
In Phoenix, Trump supporters did not yell “Stop the count!” But rather, “Stop the robbery!” (“Stop the robbery!”) Since Joe Biden is leading the way in Arizona. The Maricopa County election board said it would not be intimidated and thanked the sheriff for “doing his job so we can do ours.”
When the group moved from the grounds in front of the voting station, they sang the Village People song “YMCA,” which was often played at the end of Trump campaign appearances.
The Vegas, Nevada
In the desert metropolis of the US state of Nevada, around 75 flag-waving Trump supporters gathered for a brief rally outside the Clark County elections office. Here they also chanted “Stop the robbery!” – In Nevada, Biden leads Trump. A man wearing a mask with the American flag said, “It’s time for the purge!” (“It’s time for the purge!”).
