US President Donald Trump (74) is known for his enormous knowledge. In an interview with Fox News, he said things about Europe that were previously unknown even to Europeans. In a telephone interview, the President of the United States stated that Europe has many “forest cities” with many more “exploding trees” than California, where massive forest fires are currently raging.
Trump explicitly named Austria. “They live in the forest,” he said. But the fact that there were no such wildfires was taken as evidence of the failure of forest management in California.
Learn from Europe
One could get to know a part of these European “forest peoples”. Because “they don’t have that fire there, although they have more explosive trees,” said Donald Trump. “But the explosive is the leaves lying on the ground. If they stay there for more than 18 months, they become very explosive and therefore have to be disposed of. ”Therefore, the Austrians would apparently dilute this explosive.
Trump had already praised the Finns in similar fashion two years ago. They are excellent for preventing forest fires because they break the leaves of the forests every year. Which, of course, is complete nonsense with the 222,000 square kilometers of forest in Finland. To prevent fires and give strength to existing trees, forests are only cut down, meaning 30 to 50 percent of young trees that are growing again are removed.
“It will be cooler”
Trump denies that climate change is the cause of the increase in wildfires. He said scientists who spoke of the hot climate that favored conflagrations had little understanding of the matter.
The American president had flown to a meeting in Sacramento, the capital of California, to learn about the damage caused by the devastating wildfires. Wade Crowfoot, Secretary of the California Natural Resources Agency, told him: “We want to work with you to really understand climate change and what it means for our forests, and really work with the science.”
Trump’s response was not really reassuring: “You’ll see it will be cooler.” To which Crowfoot posted a temperature statistic and tweeted: “It’s not really getting cold, Mr. President.”
Biden intervenes
In ten US states, 87 large fires have destroyed more than 18,600 square kilometers of land, which is almost half the area of Switzerland. About 16,500 firefighters are on duty in California. Ten people died and 22 disappeared in the state of Oregon. In California there are 24 deaths.
Trump’s Democratic presidential rival Joe Biden (77) spoke from his home state of Delaware on the East Coast. He called Trump a “climate arsonist.” (gf)
