A driver was driving from Gutbertshausen to Weinmoosstrasse at around 10.30 am He told the Thurgau canton police forces that the car’s engine had died at the level crossing. The 42-year-old then stopped on the tracks to start the vehicle again. After the barriers fell, the man could no longer get the car off the tracks. As the train approached from Sulgen, the driver and his copilot left the car and went to safety. Despite emergency braking by the motor driver, there was a collision with the car, which was pushed about 30 meters over the track towards a signal system.
