Tragedy near Rapperswil-Jona SG – five people injured in accident – car caught fire

On Saturday (October 3, 2020), shortly before 2 a.m., a car with five occupants pulled off the street at Uznacherstrasse and caught fire. All the wounded were wounded. Their colleagues were able to free them from the burning car. The injured were taken to the surrounding hospitals by helicopter and several ambulances.

A 20-year-old was driving his car and four passengers between the ages of 19 and 24 from Schmerikon to Rapperswil-Jona. At the level of the BP Buech gas station, he passed a car driving in front of him. On the next left turn the car went off the road. He drove to the adjacent meadow. There it took off and stopped on the roof in the bushes. The car immediately caught fire and burned completely. The five injured occupants were released from the car by colleagues. Those injured in the accident were taken to hospitals.

In addition to several patrols from the St. Gallen cantonal police, five ambulances, an emergency doctor and a first aid officer, a helicopter and the responsible fire department were on duty. There was material damage of around 60,000 francs.
