Stefan Küng, who after his fifth place at Gent-Wevelgem was counted among the widest circle of favorites, had to bury his ambitions 50 kilometers before the finish. Thurgauer lost contact with the field due to stomach problems.
“If you can’t eat and you have to go to the bathroom 5 times before the start, it’s impossible to keep up,” Küng tweeted after the race.
