  • Sören Kragh Andersen wins the 14th stage of the Tour de France thanks to an attack just before the finish line.
  • There are no changes in the general classification. Primoz Roglic keeps the yellow jersey.
  • Stefan Küng tries his luck with an escape, but is caught.

In the last kilometers before the finish in Lyon, things really went wrong. Several drivers tried off the field to launch the decisive attack. Swiss Marc Hirschi, who won the Sarran stage on Thursday, again tried his luck, but could not escape.

Hirschi’s teammate with a successful attack

Hirschi could be happy a little later. With Sören Kragh Andersen, his teammate Sunweb managed to differentiate himself. The Dane defended his advantage in the final kilometers and reached the finish line with a margin of 15 seconds. Hirschi ran to 10th place.

The best riders in the general classification also crossed the finish line with the field. Leader Primoz Roglic had a relatively uneventful day and is still in the lead with a 44-second lead over fellow Slovenian Tadej Pogacar.

Kiing’s attack not crowned

With Stefan Küng, a Swiss made a positive appearance on stage 14 in 194 km from Clermont-Ferrand to Lyon. The Thurgauer initially belonged to an escape group and was later able to go off with the Belgian Edward Theuns. On the climb to Col du Béal, the Swiss wandered off and tried his luck alone. With 80 km to go, however, he was taken off the field. In the end, Küng was voted the most combative rider of the day for the second time after stage 10.

So it goes

A demanding stage awaits the drivers on Sunday. The departure is in Lyon, 174.5 km later the arrival to the mountain is scheduled at the Grand Colombier. The final ascent at 1501 m is 17.4 km long and has an average gradient of 7.1 percent. In the second half of the route, the Montée de la Selle de Fromentel and the Col de la Biche must complete two mountain prizes in the first category.
