Tour de France stage 12 – On the third attempt: Hirschi achieves his stage victory – sport

  • Marc Hirschi wins the 12th stage of the Tour de France.
  • The Bernese Sunweb driver makes a decisive attack 30 kilometers from the finish.
  • Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) defends the «Maillot jaune».

After Marc Hirschi narrowly missed the blow in the second and ninth stages of the Tour de France, the 22-year-old rewarded himself for his great performance in section 12 and won the stage.

Hirschi launched the stage with his attack 30 kilometers before the end. Initially on the road with other outliers, the former under-23 world champion quickly got rid of his competitors and, like Sunday, covered many miles alone.

Until the last kilometer, Hirschi’s stage victory was not certain. Because at the back, Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-Quickstep), a prominent rider, pushed the pace, but was no longer significantly closer. In the end, Hirschi drove the victory with confidence 47 seconds ahead of Pierre Rolland (BVC). In his successful escape, Hirschi secured 5 points in the mountain classification, which places him in third place, 5 points behind leader Benoît Cosnefroy (AG2R).

Favorites stop

The favorites in the general classification around the leader Primoz Roglic did not react when the decisive separatist groups were formed, as no breakaway posed a threat to the yellow jersey. They were not punished for their hesitation. Roglic continues to lead 21 seconds ahead of last year’s winner, Egan Bernal (Ineos).

Relaxed Crown Rules

Corona’s strict rules were relaxed a bit on the 107th Tour de France. If the next checks are carried out on Monday 2nd day of rest, the 4 cycling teams with a positive case in the support staff do not have to leave the race immediately in case of a new infection. Consequently, all 22 teams are starting from scratch. But it still applies that 2 positive cases lead to the exclusion of the entire racing team. A team includes not only the 8 drivers, but also the immediate environment such as supervisors, physiotherapists and sports directors.

So it goes

On Friday there is a steep stage for the drivers field (live from 3:00 pm on SRF Zwei and on the web). In the 191.5 kilometers from Châtel-Guoyn to Puy Mary Cantal, there is a total of 4,400 meters to overcome, the majority of this year’s event. Before reaching the mountain, the difficult ascent to the Col de Neronne is planned, where the favorites of the general classification will probably duel.
