December 13 is approaching and with it comes the time change. There are several major improvements in national rail transportation. But there will also be major changes in Aargau when the new schedule applies.
Save time with the S29
The Department of Construction, Transport and Environment of the Canton of Aargau writes about a “gain” for the Zofingen-Olten-Aarau area, based on the 4-lane expansion between Aarau and Olten thanks to the new Eppenberg tunnel. The central element, the S29, now runs every half hour between Aarau-Olten-Zofingen. The cities of Aarau and Zofingen can now be reached every half hour in less than 20 minutes, directly and non-stop between Aarau and Olten.
Therefore, the S29 will be even more attractive and will also save time on other sections of the route. This shows a comparison of the years 2019 and 2021.
Another S-Bahn line brings another improvement for commuters in the canton of Aargau: the S23 now runs every half hour between Langenthal and Olten; once an hour from Olten directly to Aarau – Lenzburg – Baden and once with a connection to the express S29 to Aarau – Brugg – Turgi.
Aargau also benefits from long-distance transport
The canton of Aargau can also look forward to long-distance transportation. There, the reintroduction of direct trains to St. Gallen stands out – it is the return of the “airport train” to Aarau. Every day, eight InterCity 5 connections will run past Zurich’s main train station and will also serve the airport, Winterthur and St. Gallen.
Train travelers can travel south faster on weekends with two RegioExpress trains in the morning from Olten via Aarau – Lenzburg – Wohlen – Muri to Arth-Goldau. At night, two trains run in the opposite direction. With good connections in Arth-Goldau, travel times with the so-called “Südbahn-Express” to Ticino are shortened by up to half an hour. Another highlight is Muri’s additional S-Bahn. Offers superior Freiamt customers a non-transfer connection to Zug arriving at 7:14 am (az / cri)
