Tighter than the federal government: Ausserrhoden decides on additional measures from the crown
In the wake of the latest federal measures from the crown, the Ausserrhoder government met for an extraordinary meeting on Saturday morning. Cantonal rules go further than those of the federal government.
On Friday, the Federal Council announced the tightening of the crown measures. They apply from Saturday. Among other things, restaurants, bars, shops, markets, museums, libraries, as well as sports and leisure facilities must close between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. However, cantons with a favorable epidemiological development can extend the curfew until 11:00 pm. However, this does not currently apply to eastern Switzerland.
The Ausserrhoder government met on Saturday morning for an extraordinary meeting and discussed the implementation of the Federal Council tightening. Cantonal rules go further than those of the federal government. They apply from midnight on Sunday, December 13.
Appeal to the population of the canton
As indicated in the communication from the cantonal chancellery, the governing council supports the stricter measures adopted by the federal council and is constantly implementing them. It is also essential that there is good coordination between the cantons in eastern Switzerland.
In a similar way to the cantons of Thurgau and St. Gallen, the Ausserrhoder government has now decided to ban the gathering of more than ten people in public spaces. “The governing council very much regrets that such drastic measures have to be taken during Advent of all time,” the message reads. In it, he also calls on the entire population of the canton to adhere to the measures without exception.
Corona’s case numbers are still too high
The government refers to the number of corona cases, which are still too high. She writes:
“The epidemiological situation is bad.”
Therefore, the Governing Council shares the goal of the Federal Council to further reduce the number of contacts and avoid crowds. If it is not possible to significantly reduce the number of infections and associated hospitalizations, there is a risk of “lockdown in Switzerland at Christmas”. This should be avoided absolutely, as far as the Ausserrhoder government. “This now requires a lot of effort on everyone’s part.”
Home office whenever possible
Specifically, the Ausserrhoder Governing Council has decided to prohibit the gathering of more than ten people in public spaces, that is, in public places, trails and parks. Actions in public spaces that may lead to prohibited meetings of people are also prohibited.
The governing council is also renewing the call to employers to ensure that work can be done from home to the extent possible.
The communication also refers to the new tightening of the Federal Council. In addition to the aforementioned restaurant and bar curfew, public events are now banned by the federal government. The exceptions are religious celebrations with a maximum of 50 people, funerals in family and close circle of friends, and political opinion formation meetings. Singing indoors and outdoors outside the family is also prohibited.
Ski until December 22
Ski areas require a permit from the canton to operate ski facilities. According to the notification, the most important requirement for a permit is that the epidemiological situation allows the ski facilities to operate. Operators must also come up with strict protection concepts that implement nationally standardized requirements. Ski lift operators who have applied and meet the requirements can keep their facilities open until December 22. An operating license in accordance with this then depends on the epidemiological situation.
