Baselland tightened the crown measures. As of next Friday, restaurants, discos and bars must be closed from 9 pm to 6 pm, expressly also on “Christmas and New Year’s Eve”, as indicated in a press release on Tuesday. The new rules apply until January 17, 2021. In addition, a maximum of 50 people per room is allowed in the businesses in question. The new curfew also applies to sales transactions. This means that the gas station store must also close at 9 pm
Events with more than 15 people are also prohibited. There are exceptions for religious events on holidays, in the field of education or political activities, as well as for funerals.
All leisure institutions must close
Basically, all leisure institutions must close before January 17th. “All sports activities, that is, training activities and competitions, are prohibited in public access facilities and companies, as well as outdoors.” There are exceptions for competitive sports, professional games, school sports and sports studies, as well as outdoor sports activities in small groups of up to five people.
Neighborhood and youth centers, game rooms, wellness centers, erotic shops, saunas and “comparable leisure facilities for the public” must also close.
The rules apply until January 17.
The ordinance comes into effect on Friday, December 11 and is valid until January 17, 2021. Anyone deliberately opposing the ordered measures will be punished with a fine. It also says that the measures that have been decided have been agreed with the neighboring cantons and are “largely identical”.
Basel’s governing council makes it clear that it already has an additional package of measures in its quiver if the rules announced Tuesday do not lead to lower-case numbers. Appeal to the sense of responsibility of the residents to limit contacts as much as possible.
The Basel government will comment on the new measures at a press conference starting at 3 pm
