A one-year-old boy and a 43-year-old man were killed in a traffic accident at Gnosca TI near Bellinzona on Tuesday night. The man drove off the road in his vehicle and crashed into a church wall.
The 43-year-old from Ticino, who lives in the region, was heading north along the main road shortly before 6 p.m., as the Canton of Ticino police announced on Wednesday evening. According to initial investigations, the man had strayed off the road and crashed into the wall of a church on the side of the road. The exact course of the accident has yet to be determined, he said.
Child died in hospital
The man was trapped in the vehicle. The emergency services deployed could only determine the death due to the serious injuries. Emergency services provided the boy with first aid and then took him to hospital. There he also died of serious injuries.
The affected highway was closed until around 11 p.m., emergency services said. A care team is also on duty.
