Höri ZH’s Portuguese family had no chance: on Saturday night around 2:30 pm, João T. * († 48), wife Maria T. * († 44) and son Pedro T. * († 22) by car on the way home from vacation in the old homeland back to Switzerland. On the A9 motorway near Montpellier, the family suddenly finds a truck in front! The people of Zurich by their own choice cannot evade, they get on the truck. All three died instantly. The pain between Höri’s neighbors and their relatives is enormous.
As reported by the Portuguese media, the family had lived in Switzerland for several decades. Maria T. ran a small hairdresser in a residential area of Bülach ZH. Here residents have lit a candle in front of the entrance and can hardly believe what happened. The whole neighborhood is shocked. Everyone knew Maria at least by sight, she was always very friendly, ”says a resident in front of VIEW.
Image of the accident scene shows the force of the impact
The news of the terrible accident also quickly spread to the family’s place of residence in Höri ZH. “It’s incredibly sad,” says a local resident. The family has two other children who were not in the car when the accident occurred. “It must be very difficult for her.”
Images from the crash scene show the force of the impact – the family car is just a pile of crushed metal. It is not entirely clear why the Polish trucker (62) went on the wrong track. He was slightly injured in the horrific accident. An alcohol test came back negative, a drug test result is still pending. Apparently a crown test was also done because the 62-year-old had a fever. He has been arrested and is under medical treatment.
“There are no words to comfort”
João and Maria T. had been married for 25 years, but were still freshly in love on social media. According to the Portuguese media, João worked in the construction industry and grew up in Tabuaço, east of Porto. The son likes to show himself on the Internet with fast cars and motorcycles, or with a wooden spoon in hand. The young man dreamed of an apprenticeship as a cook.
Hundreds of condolences from friends and family can be found online. “There are no words to comfort,” someone writes. And: “The pain must be immense, it must be a terrible emptiness, I love you.” Someone else writes: “Much strength and courage to bear this unjust loss.”
