The case of the South African billionaire Johann Rupert (70) made headlines. The wealthy owner of the luxury brand Richemont and owner of the Hirslanden group was able to get vaccinated in the canton of Thurgau before the official start of vaccination.
Now he regrets the “mistake”, but emphasizes that the immunization against Covid-19 was legal. This despite the fact that the cantons must first vaccinate people over 75 years of age or older and the chronically ill at high risk. But there is, according to the canton, a legal gap, even for the youngest and healthiest vaccinators who do not want to wait any longer for the puncture.
“Wildcard list”
With Covid vaccination there are always excess doses. There is always a small amount left in the vial or people who have registered do not show up for the vaccination appointment. These residual amounts cannot be kept for long. They must be inoculated quickly or removed. Vaccination requires volunteers who can be on site quickly.
As the “Tages-Anzeiger” reports, the cantons handle this challenge very differently. In the canton of Thurgau, people who would like to be vaccinated can join a list from December. The highest priority is that vaccines are not thrown away.
You can also enroll anyone who has not yet turned 75 and does not have a chronic illness. These people generally receive a phone call between 6 pm and 7:30 pm and should be at the Frauenfeld vaccination center within 60 minutes. Thurgau’s “wild card list” allows three to four vaccinations per day outside of the regular vaccination schedule.
Cantonal differences
In the canton of St. Gallen, a list of people who can be on site in half an hour is drawn up in advance. Preference would be given to the very old or members of risk groups, but this list is also open to all those who want to get vaccinated.
In the canton of Zurich, home doctors keep such lists. As a general rule, those vaccinated additionally come from the work environment of the respective home. In the canton of Basel-Stadt, 115 people have so far benefited from the inoculation of residual amounts and around 50 people at the vaccination center.
The cantons of Bern, Basel, Aargau and Lucerne inoculate residual quantities to health personnel and employees of vaccination centers. In these cantons, those who want to get vaccinated will have difficulty getting vaccinated before a regular appointment. (kes)
