Actually, cell phones from Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi count as economic value. However, the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro breaks new ground. In the test, we clarified whether the 108 MP camera mid-range smartphone can really keep up with the fierce competition.

Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro in the test: conclusion

Although the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro does not allow big mistakes, it did not leave a lasting impression during the test. The smartphone camera, which is very close-up, takes very high resolution photos, but it is really “impressive”, as the customer promises, but the images are not seen. In some situations I was expecting a Penta camera with a 108 MP sensor. The same applies to the rest of the cell phone.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro is anything but a bad smartphone, by contrast. The device can boast solid workmanship, a sleek display, massive storage, and long battery life. However, in most categories I expected more from the cell phone, which costs around 530 euros.

An example: Battery life can be seen with two continuous days without intermediate charge, but you can expect more than a 5,260 mAh battery in combination with an energy saving middle class processor. The same applies to the built-in fingerprint sensor. Although this often does its job reliably, it doesn’t react as fast as with other superior competing devices.

The display, on the other hand, can convince with rich color rendering – only the 60Hz refresh rate is negative. The Snapdragon 730G provides enough performance in everyday situations, but the difference with Qualcomm’s high-end chips is often noticeable during use. Applications start slower, if you want to switch between them there are little stutters and if you scroll quickly through an application you sometimes get the feeling that the processor is not always falling behind.

In the end, Xiaomi sits between the chairs with the Mi Note 10 Pro. The smartphone is a decent device overall and takes more than just good photos. The camera is and remains the device’s unique selling point. Whether you want to spend around 530 euros just for this, everyone has to decide for themselves, but in this price category we recommend a device like the OnePlus 7T.

Advantage:

  • Knotty Processing
  • Good camera
  • Lots of internal storage
  • Jack connector
  • Long duration battery

Disadvantages

  • 60 Hz display only
  • mediocre performance
  • Delivered with Android 9.0 Pie

Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro: test report

The highlight of the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro is clearly the Penta camera on the back of the smartphone (Image: GIGA).

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro is a real whisk – you notice it immediately after unpacking. The smartphone weighs almost 210 grams, but the Samsung Galaxy S20 seems almost light. Furthermore, the device is built much heavier with a depth of just under an inch, this is particularly noticeable when you carry your smartphone in your pocket.

However, the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro’s processing is perfect. Nowhere can you find gaps, sharp edges or other production errors. At first glance, China’s mobile phone can compete with the largest in this category.

The first thing you notice when you turn on the screen is the small water drop notch into which the front camera is embedded. More on that later. The integrated fingerprint sensor is hidden underneath the screen and the smartphone is charged with up to 30 watts via USB-C. Good to know: The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro is one of the few current smartphones that still has a jack connection.

Here are some little things that I noticed in a few minutes:

  • The vibration of the screen when playing the digital keyboard is very unsatisfactory.
  • A separate area is not automatically created on the home screen for applications with a stored work profile.
  • The color reproduction of the screen largely depends on the viewing angle.
  • None of the pre-installed applications can open PNG images.
  • Advertising plays while using Xiaomi’s own apps that are already pre-installed.

Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro cameras

The fact that the camera is clearly the focus of the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro should have been noticed at first glance. The Chinese manufacturer has equipped its smartphone with 5 sensors: the highlight is the 108 MP sensor.

The 5 camera sensors of the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro in detail:

  • 108 MP wide angle (f / 1.7, 25m, OIS)
  • 12MP telephoto (f / 2.0, 50mm, dual optical zoom)
  • 5 MP telephoto lens (f / 2.0, 5x optical zoom, OIS)
  • 20 MP ultra wide angle (f / 2.2)
  • 2 MP macro (f / 2.4)

Almost all the photos of the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro are impressive. Autofocus was particularly compelling on snapshots. He reacted very quickly and almost always focused on the right topic. However, there are various point deductions for the Xiaomi phone. On the one hand, there is the integrated macro camera. Your recordings are always erased, not focused properly, and also have too low a resolution.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro’s macro mode cannot convince.

What is particularly disturbing is the aggressive beauty mode of the front camera. With this, Xiaomi tries to rid the face of all “defects”. In reality, however, many areas are simply blurred. What remains is a face with a “Babyface” look.

Smoother, softer, Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro. Thanks to the beauty mode of the front camera, all the striking details of the faces are lost.

But how does the 108 MP camera of the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro work? Images can be very compelling in their sharpness and rich detail. Especially when you zoom in on the photos, you are amazed at how long they stay sharp. However, the big problem with the 108 MP sensor is white balance. All photos taken in high resolution mode have a clear greenish blue hue. Too bad, because otherwise the images are compelling. Only the 108 MP image processing time was negatively noted – here the Snapdragon 730G is slowly reaching its limits. After taking the photo, it takes a few seconds before you can take the next snapshot.

The richness of detail of the 108 MP sensor is so great that we had to make the license plates in the background unrecognizable: they were perfectly recognizable.

Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro performance and software

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro still uses Android 9.0 Pie (Image: GIGA).

Xiaomi cannot excel in this category. The Mi Note 10 Pro still runs Android 9.0 Pie: An update to the current version of Android was not available during our test. MIUI shouldn’t be for everyone either. Above all, the missing app drawer and the rather confusing settings menu had a negative impact. It takes half an hour to put all your apps in the correct folder and organize them correctly on your home screen.

But that’s not the only trouble spot for the smartphone. Due to the Snapdragon 730G, performance also lags far behind known flagship smartphones. The performance of the mid-range chip is completely sufficient for daily use, but the increase in charging times when starting and changing applications is negatively noticed, especially if the inputs on the touch screen are not recognized because the device is still charging. .

But using the Snapdragon 730G also has its advantages, as shown in the next category.

Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro battery life

He is not a sprinter, but a marathon runner: the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro (Image: GIGA).

Coupled with the 5,000+ mAh battery, Qualcomm’s mid-range chip ensures exceptional battery life. In everyday life, the smartphone lasted two full days, only then did it have to be plugged in again, that’s awesome!

Despite the fast charge technology, the battery doesn’t recharge 100 percent as fast as the competition, but due to the increased capacity, this can be easily overcome. After around 30-35 minutes, the battery charges at just over 50 percent, and after an hour and 20 minutes it is back on edge and ready to go.

So if you’re looking for a cell phone so you don’t have to plug it in every night, you’ve come to the right place.
