A lamb sold in Scotland for £ 367,500.
Double Diamond (double diamond), as the animal is called, has achieved a world record: the highest price for a sheep to date was around 231,000 pounds according to the Guinness Book of Records and was also achieved in northern Great Britain eleven years ago.
Three farmers bought the six-month-old animal together at the animal auction in Lanark and now want to get the money back through breeding. The animal is a male Texel sheep. “If you want the best, you have to try to buy it,” said one of the new owners. “This is the best Texel sheep I have ever seen.”
The legs, the color and the upper part of the body are perfect: “it has it all”, the buyers enthused. The short-legged animals originally hail from the Dutch island of Texel and dominate sheep farming in Britain. Its meat properties are considered excellent. (sda / dpa)
