Life in Aargau doesn’t seem particularly attractive. At least according to the current community ranking of “Weltwoche”. The city of Zug ranks first, followed by Meggen (LU) and Lachen (SZ). You have to scroll longer until the first Aargau municipality appears on the list. Ennetbaden only appears in position 39. Compared to the previous year, the municipality has 37 places. It obtains a positive score in the category of housing (104º), labor market (65) and population (60).
The areas for pedestrians and walkers have been improved thanks to the redesign of the Postplatz and Badstrasse area, explains Pius Graf, Mayor of Ennetbaden, to “Weltwoche”. The quality of life will increase even more with the introduction of Tempo 30 on all municipal roads. “Life is coming back to the center,” says Graf. “Among other things for the Ennetraum, a meeting point with a wide range for all walks of life.”
Various programs are offered at the meeting and cultural center, from singing lessons and children’s wellness to a political café or repair shop.
Oberwil-Lieli is left behind
Not far from Ennetbaden, at 42nd place, is Oberwil-Lieli. However, this is no cause for celebration for the community. In the previous year it reached position 13. The municipality has lost almost 200 positions in the category “labor market”: from position 101 it falls back to position 293.
The municipality received particularly low marks in the supply category (856). The evaluation of this division includes the number of doctors, hospitals, schools, shopping centers, grocery stores, as well as leisure and cultural activities. However, in terms of taxes, Oberwil-Lieli was able to improve: from seventh place last year to fifth place.
Wettingen was ranked third in Aargau’s most attractive municipalities in the Weltwoche ranking. In a Swiss comparison, the municipality is ranked 85, last year it ranked 49.
Oberkulm is at the end of Aargau
Oberkulm fares worse at 916. The municipality received poor marks, especially in the housing (925) and labor market (900) categories.
A little consolation for Aargau residents: Solothurn residents do much worse on the rankings. Solothurn is the first municipality to appear at number 235.
The “Weltwoche” publishes a ranking list of the most attractive parishes each year. All municipalities in Switzerland with more than 2000 inhabitants are scored on the basis of fifty factors. This year there are a total of 933.
Quality of life is assessed using seven criteria:
- Housing (for example, real estate prices, residential construction activity, vacancy rate)
- Labor market (unemployment rate, startups, service sector employees)
- Population (beneficiaries of social assistance, youth participation, population growth)
- Tax burden (for singles, families and seniors)
- Accessibility (travel time by public transport and / or car to the next center and the next big city)
- Attention (number of doctors, hospitals, schools, shopping centers, supermarkets, leisure and cultural activities)
- Security (crimes against the penal code, drugs and immigration law)
