The Federal Council decided on Friday to toughen measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic throughout Switzerland. These must be applied from Saturday, December 12 to January 22, 2021. In some cantons, stricter rules apply, for example in the canton of Basel-Stadt, where there is currently a partial lockdown.

Restaurants and bars
Restaurants and bars must close at 7 pm On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve the curfew is 1:00 am Exceptions are possible for cantons with a good epidemiological situation.
Recreational activities
Museums, libraries, shops, markets, leisure and sports facilities, such as cinemas, must close after 7:00 p.m. and on Sundays and holidays. Exceptions are possible for cantons with a good epidemiological situation.
Public events
Public events are prohibited. There are exceptions for religious services, funerals, political rallies, and parliamentary assemblies.
People limit for groups
Sports or cultural activities with more than five people are not allowed. The exceptions apply to children and youth, professional sports and professional cultural workers. Meanwhile, private meetings are possible with a maximum of ten people. The recommendation is not to affect more than two households at the same time. However, meetings in public spaces can be held with a maximum of 15 people.
Rules for restaurants and ski areas
There are rules for restaurants and other facilities (registration, number of guests per table) and the obligation to implement protection concepts. The same goes for ski areas.
Singing and clubs
Discos and dance halls are closed. Singing together is only possible as a family and at school.
School and work
Only distance learning is possible at universities. The federal government also urgently recommends working from home for all employees for whom this is possible.
