In the US state of Michigan, investigators have foiled a plot against the local government and the kidnapping of Governor Gretchen Whitmer (49). A total of 13 men were arrested. The horrendous accusation of the prosecutor: “You wanted to start a civil war to cause a social collapse.”
Gretchen Whitmer is considered one of the biggest opponents of Donald Trump (74). She was in discussion as a candidate for the vice presidency of the United States alongside Joe Biden (77).
Behind the incredible plan is the Wolverine Watchmen militia, which opposes taxes and restrictions such as the crown measures. In August and September, its members observed Whitmer’s vacation home where she should have been abducted. To keep the police out, he should have detonated a bomb under a nearby bridge.
The police became aware of the criminal plot when the militia tried to trace the names of the police officers. Investigators then managed to get more information from at least two people they trusted, which ultimately led to their arrest.
Violence against politicians
Who are the “gluttonous guards”, as the dangerous troop is translated in German? It originates from the state of Michigan, which is also called the Wolverine State. The militias find a good breeding ground in the gap between the democratic cities and the republican regions.
Michigan Assistant Attorney General Gregory Townsend calls defendants Joseph Morrison, 42, and Pete Musico, 42, founding members of the group committed to violence against the government and politicians.
Shooting exercises at the commander’s house
According to Townsend, Morrison was the commander who made his Munith property, west of Detroit, available as a training ground. Neighbors reported in the US media that large groups met regularly and shot each other in all directions. The group is known to conduct target practice and survival training at such gatherings.
The Wolverine Watchmen are an offshoot of another militia, the Wolverines. This militia was founded in 1994 by former United States Air Force Sergeant Norman Olson (74). At best, the group had about 10,000 members in the state, divided into more than 80 brigades in nine divisions.
Large arsenals
In their 31-page handbook, which was posted on the now-inactive homepage, Wolverine Watchmen claim to be non-racist, right-wing extremists, terrorists, or anti-government. Everyone is welcome, regardless of skin color. However, the “Judeo-Christian influence” is emphasized.
They call well-armed citizens “the best form of national security” to keep out terrorism, crime, invasion and tyranny. They would not hesitate to use arms to fight for the freedom of American citizens. The arsenals of the militias include silenced firearms, homemade bombs, Tasers, night vision devices, there is even talk of tanks.
In Michigan, militia movements continue to attract attention. In 2010, members of a group called Hutaree were charged with sedition and planning a bomb attack at the funeral of a police officer.
They got another boost during the corona pandemic. Militias and other right-wing extremist groups rallied to protest the protection measures ordered by Gretchen Whitmer. The president of the United States, Donald Trump, does not seem to be against these movements. In any case, on April 17, before the protests, he tweeted: “Free Michigan!”, Which means “Free Michigan!”
The US presidential elections will take place on November 3, 2020. Current President Donald Trump is seeking a second term. Will he be able to maintain his position or will challenger Joe Biden win for the Democrats?
