For more than a month, Switzerland wondered who was among the different costumes for “The Swiss Masked Singer.” In the final on Friday night, the last three secrets were finally revealed and the winner was chosen: disguised as a marmot, the musician Baschi (34) from Basel won the show.
VISTA: Last night you won “The Masked Singer”. Congratulations! How are you now?
Baschi: I’m fine, the smell of triumph is still on my nose and I’m completely melted into my costume: the groundhog. I was really nervous last night! Not because of the songs or the show, after all, I’ve already had casting show experience in my past. It was more the idea that we are finally in the final after traveling to Cologne over and over again for six secretive weeks. This is why I really wanted to win the show in the end.
The advisory team and the audience were equally enthusiastic about her performance. How satisfied are you with their performance?
So you can’t take singing seriously on this TV show, it’s very difficult to sing under this mask. But since there are a lot of people sitting at home these days, I was hoping that my performance in front of the camera would at least make them smile a little and have other thoughts. I always gave it my all.
What was it like singing under the mask and moving on stage in disguise?
When I first put on the costume, I was almost claustrophobic and could hardly breathe. My biggest fear was that I would suddenly turn black in front of my eyes. In this costume, you always have to give 10-20 percent more than normal for the movements to show. During broadcasts, I circled my hips the entire time and never stood still for a second. That was extremely exhausting. Last night I was even on the verge of collapse, my pulse was 160.
Where did you get the energy for it?
I live for the stage, whether it’s singing for a concert or on a TV show. But since I also had a lot on my mind besides “The Masked Singer”, in the last few weeks it has sometimes become too much for me. After all, I had to practice the songs, rehearse the choreography, and I also had my own job as a musician. That was really stressful. Since I hyperventilated once, I even went to the hospital once and had an exam. Fortunately everything was fine.
At the end of the TV show, you said that you had already stepped into the sawdust along with the runner-up, the king of wrestling Arnold Nöldi Forrer (42). Was it more fun swinging against him or singing on stage?
Then, while swinging, Nöldi pressed me against the sawdust with his left hand. But as a vocal opponent, he was a great hunk and surprised all of Switzerland. That is why I am offering you some singing lessons so that next year we will record and publish a joint album with the best hugs. It would definitely go through the roof.
Who knew about your participation in “The Masked Singer”?
I told my fiancee Alana Netzer, her parents, my mother, and my study partner. But no one else around me really knew it, and everyone who knows me knows how difficult it was for me. However, many viewers were already sure from the fourth show that he had to be under the marmot disguise. Since then, some people have yelled “Hoi Murmeli” at me every time they saw me in town.
What white lie did you use to attend the show?
Somehow it always worked so I never needed a white lie. The meetings on Thursday and Friday never convinced me and nobody asked me much. I’m glad about that, otherwise I’d have to suddenly say I’m going to spray my lips or something.
Would you play “The Masked Singer” again?
I imagine myself sitting on the other side of the counseling team and guessing. But going through this torture again under this mask, I don’t think so.
How do you celebrate your victory now?
Now I’m going to go to town here in Cologne and have mulled wine with my loved one. Then we fly back to Switzerland.
Sung well, but not enough in the end for the fox. The singer Eliane Müller from Hochdorf LU was under the costume. He finished third. The second highest number of votes was won by the god of the sea played by a true king: Arnold Nöldi Forrer (42), the king of wrestling from Nyon in 2001.
