The Thurgau government welcomes the traffic light system, but wants to act faster than the federal government and keep stores open

The Federal Council proposes three packages of measures to the cantons that would be taken if the situation of the crown worsens. The Thurgau government welcomes the traffic light system on which it is based, but already calls for a tightening this Friday.

The federal government wants to install a traffic light system and, depending on the epidemiological development, issue more restrictions. The traffic light system is linked to four indicators: the incidence of 14 days, the reproductive value, the rate of positivity in the tests and the utilization of the health system.

The Thurgau Governing Council welcomes the fact that stricter measures should be ordered on the basis of previously defined indicators. There are two reasons for this: first, there is security planning for the population, the economy and the cantons. Second, the planned procedure reinforces evidence-based decisions that are made at a distance from the daily news and therefore are better suited to achieving the goal than short-term measures that can be taken with distorted perception. The government writes this in its statement to the federal government.

Federal time is too late for the eastern cantons of Switzerland

According to the documents presented to the cantons, the Federal Council was scheduled to discuss the toughening of the measures on December 28 and January 5. The first real adjustment would only be possible from December 29, writes the governing council:

“Given the situation in Thurgau canton, it is too late.”

Given that this also applies to other cantons in eastern Switzerland and a uniform approach would make sense, the Thurgau governing council is “emphatically” in favor of the federal government putting the first package of measures into effect in Switzerland this Saturday. .

The first package includes: the restaurants, with the exception of the take away food stalls, will be closed. The same applies to sports and leisure activities such as tennis. Cultural and entertainment establishments also remain closed.

Close tattoo studios and erotic shops

The governing council considers the closure of shops and markets on weekends as part of the second package of measures to be counterproductive. The number of customers would be distributed in less purchase time. Even holidays would lead to fewer days of shopping and therefore more crowded stores.

The Thurgau government does not understand that tattoo studios and erotic shops should remain open. These are relatively unimportant. The population could do without these services for a few weeks.

“Therefore, we are requesting the closure of tattoo studios and erotic businesses analogous to restaurants, leisure and sports businesses, as well as cultural, leisure and entertainment facilities.”
