It has been clear for a long time: next year there will also be no carnival as we know it in Basel. However, the Basler Fasnachts Committee gave the population the hope of a neighborhood carnival, a kind of morning street and the “Gässle”.

However, it is clear from Thursday that there will be no carnival activities in the next year, except for young people..

Fought to the end

In the summer of the summer, the chair of the Committee, Pia Inderbitzin, announced that they were seeking ideas from the carnival people to allow the carnival to continue despite the pandemic. At any cost, they wanted to offer comfort to the carnival crowd. The cancellation of this year’s carnival affected everyone a lot, the greater was the motivation to find a solution for next year. Now these hopes must also be buried.

Looking back on last year, Inderbitzin, who took over as president in July 2018, says she couldn’t expect such an exceptional situation. “But it was also exciting to think in a new way and break the worn rails,” says Inderbitzin.

“Keep the boys involved”

The Carnival festivities will take place in both Basles from February 13 to March 1. During this time, the spirit of the carnival should appear throughout the city. There are no activities during the royal carnival from February 22 to 25. However, the presence of “Frau Fasnacht” must be notorious.

“The guys have to keep me going,” Pia Inderbitzin told Telebasel on Thursday. This should also be implemented through an exhibition during the carnival holidays. The individual stations are developed by Junge Garden.

“The spirit of the carnival must continue, it must be lived,” Inderbitzin said of the exhibition. The “carnival walk” should definitely take place, even if the situation around the coronavirus does not improve.

The full interview with the Chairperson of the Committee, Pia Inderbitzin, is available on Telebasel.ch on Friday and on television starting at 6:45 pm
