(mg) The woman fell in love with a jihadist fighter in Syria in 2017 via social media and attempted to travel with the man. This is what the Federal Police Office (fedpol) wrote in an update on the knife attack in Ticino on Twitter. At that time, however, the Turkish authorities detained the woman at the Turkish-Syrian border and sent her back to Switzerland. Since 2017, according to fedpol, the woman “no longer appears in investigations with a terrorist background.” On Tuesday afternoon, the 28-year-old woman wounded two women with a knife in the Piazza Dante mansion. One of them was seriously injured, but not fatally. During the course of the day, fedpol also became involved in the investigation, as terrorist motives cannot be ruled out.
